You can't link the two reservations in any meaningful way. Even if you were on the same reservation, if you don't select your own seats, you may not sit together (and, in practice, often will not sit together on popular routes). Selecting seats should work, although seat assignments have been known to get scrambled around from time to time, so keep an eye on your reservation.
