The operator advised that I cannot book this on one ticket because there is no premium economy class on domestic sectors (this is of course obvious) and so I can only book the LHR-NYC using the voucher and will need to make a separate booking for my domestic connections. This sounds like nonsense to me but the operator was not for moving on this.
Any advice?
This is indeed absolute nonsense. There is no premium economy for the (free) domestic connection but that doesn't mean you can't book it. Mixed class bookings are entirely possible and there's nothing in the Barclaycard voucher terms that would rule it out. Indeed if anything it could be argued they should be upgrading you to business class as the "next highest" cabin!
