Also, these kind of bonus point packages are status qualifying, right? I may go for Diamond this year in that case. I will be nowhere near 70 nights this year, but could reach 120000 points with a couple of nights with this package...!
This is how I will be requalifying for diamond too (initially I wasn't going to bother).
I don't understand how these bonus point packages are priced. USD 20 for 5k is on the better side, but there are some hotels which give 5k EQP for USD 12 or less (I've done 6 nights at this price), while I have seen 5k points going for USD 50+ at other properties. Also some properties only sell 2k or 3k points. Most properties which offer 5000 allow you to choose in increments of 1000, but I found one which only offered 1000, 2000 or 5000 and the price of 5000 was more than 5x the price of 1000...
And obviously you must also pay the flexible rate even if you would have otherwise bought the prepaid rate.
