This is totally off-topic, and I apologize in advance, but the whole topic of how a large company can work like this with tinkering on live servers always makes me laugh. We've had customers over the years who have actively refused to use development and testing environments, despite our protests, just because they perceive it as something that will waste time in their opinion. Even though we offer these environments at no cost to them because we know just how bad doing things in production environment is, not to mention worse when it is a complex one. This one is such a remarkable uphill battle, and it shouldn't have to be.
