If you follow the arrivals route you exit landside via baggage reclaim (bypassing passport control), take the lift up to departures and through security via the first wing. First wing security is almost always quicker than flight connections.
If you follow the connections route then you have to queue with the connections security which can be quite long at busy times.
Very useful info, thanks, as I am flying into T5 from DUB on 11 Oct to connect onwards to JFK as part of the start of my tier point run to TUS. I've followed the connections route previously, but will try the arrivals route this time. It will be interesting to compare the two, especially as I will be travelling HBO.
