They said in their investor presentation that they need to attract new customers given that for example, on the business side, they are retaining customers but each person is taking less trips. I am not sure that any of these initiatives are really all that attractive to new customers. If you are a family of 5 that takes a once a year vacation and checks in 10 bags, WN would be a reasonable option for non status customers. How many frequent travelers regularly check 2 bags within the mostly short haul domestic network that WN operates? As was mentioned by an analyst at the presentation, you are still not even getting free Wifi and other perks that other airlines offer. You now have to pay to get a decent seat and in many cities, your flights options will be greatly reduced. Why not just fly a competitor or stay with another airline at that point? Doesn't seem to be much value add and it will take them years to get the aircraft reconfigured and their new boarding system worked out. They are also trying to get rid of all of their 700/800 series aircraft while betting 100% on the MAX where deliveries continue to be hopelessly delayed. They still seem a bit lost as to where they are going.
