While you wait for someone who would have better knowledge in this area, I would suggest you type of a short list of the type of things you want to "avoid". Everybody has their own and they are probably not the same. Like for me, I don't care that much about how pristine a beach needs to be, or if there's enough activities for kids, or even the food selection if the costs are fairly cheap. My issue is if there are rowdy/loud drunk people and noise all night.

But based on my trips to beach areas in Mexico, skimping/watering down alcoholic drinks is almost the norm now for really cheap resorts. But that's happening mostly everywhere including airport lounges due to inflation. If you're paying a lot of couse normally you will get better service. Good luck.
