Seems to be something about status. I got my seat assigned to my son by calling OP and a nice person there broke some rules and confirmed that Status comes into play somehow...... but they not allowed to tell you that.

Doesn't have to do with status. This has happened to many plats (including myself).

As channa and others have said, they block seats for handicapped persons and a few other reasons. You will still get a seat in F when you check-in.
