I'm kinda confused why you would think its the airline agents job, in the lounge, to provide tech support for a credit card. As you say: It's a task that takes 30 seconds to do, but you need to do it.
Well that's a cute response and oh so helpful. Since you quibble about the language, I meant 'full rejection' as opposed to saying 'let's see if we can figure out why this isn't working for you'...'I see your Aeroplan # is on your reservation so did you link your CC to your Aeroplan account? Oh, you didn't know you needed to do that, well this is how you do it. As I see you have your Aeroplan # on your booking and I can see the physical Black VISA in your hand with your name on it I'll do a manual over-ride this time for you, but please complete the link to ensure no future issues'.

IMHO that would have been the correct response from the agent if they actually wanted to be helpful as neither the podium or the lounge were busy but she just seemed happier to turn them away than offer any assistance.

This was also when the whole Black Credit card thing was pretty new and I don't recall that the direction to link your card was overly clear. They now send out emails telling you to do that, but at the time they did not.
