I now book these UA tickets far ahead - Aug 1 - 10-11 months out
Plan Cancel on July 15th - credit valid on UA till July 15 2026 = at least 23 months validity
This is not how it works.
You can cancel an existing ticket via UA on UAs site no problem (some have said not, but most, including personal experience, works just like a cancelation of a ticket booked on UAs site direct). However, validity is based on
original date of issue, not date of cancelation. So validity of credit is from 1 year from date of ticket issue. Given tickets book pretty immediately, if you booked the ticket today, Sept. 23, it would be valid for a new itinerary that has the first segment departing on
Sept. 22, 2024 (or maybe Sept. 23, 2024, can't remember exactly. Cancel next week or next August, and validity will be the same.
