Has anyone canceled a hotel reservation paid for with the $300 credit? How fast does the credit reappear for use?

I'm on the fence about changing a hotel reservation and was hoping for something smooth (like canceling a southwest ticket online) and being able to book a new hotel right away or at least within a day.
