Thought I'd share my win for the day in the hopes that others here may be able to exploit.
My Mother lives in Australia and, given she's getting on, doesn't particularly appreciate the idea of trekking across the world to SOF, OSL, or wherever else is cheap in order for her to finally arrive in the UK three days later. (Weird, if you ask me.)
As many here will know, given it's a captive market, J travel ex-Oz is ...rather pricey. Particularly if you want to earn FF points and the passenger in question enters cardiac arrest when booked on any carrier besides QR, QF, SQ or EK. Helpfully, the availability of J awards on these routes closer than exactly 365 days out is somewhat ...thin. Shame we only ever decide to book 9 months out at best - every year a tiny portion of my soul dies when after hours of scrambling I pull off an Avios/QFF SYD-BLR-LHR at the last moment. Alas, that won't do either.
So imagine my delight upon discovering Revolut are running a 20x 'Revpoints' bonus on all Qatar Airways bookings, with a £1 spent to 1 'RevPoint' to 1 Avios exchange rate, and immediate crediting on both Revolut and then BA after conversion (I've only just bought the tickets, the RevPoints added to Revolut instantly and, after exchanging straightaway, they've credited onto BA within the time it has taken for me to pen this gloat-a-thon.)
Ticket cost £6.1k and 128,000 credited RevPoints/Avios as a result.
Given my annual parting with an arm and a leg for my mother's enjoyment typically only induces a howl of pain, I was at least mildly smug this year, if totally bewildered that my Mother really couldn't cop BLR for a day for a slightly cheaper trip. Ah well. Fingers crossed for plenty of avios availability on my standard routes.
Hope some others on here might be able to benefit, and I pray if you have any involvement in your parents' travel affairs, that involvement bears slightly less financial burden than my own!
