Could not find a thread yet, so starting one. We had booked a suite for mid-September, but unfortunately the opening date shifted and we were put up in another hotel (which was dreadful, by the way).
That said, I was curious and headed out to the site to take a look around, which was possible as the Marina remains accessible during the construction. I even managed to connect with some staff from the hotel which were very nice and showed me around.
In short, this will be a stunning property once ready, it is about 15-20 Minutes drive from the airport, in a dry and sunny corner of Madeira, close to the start of the famous (and crowded) PR8 coastal hike.
The property is more like a small village built against a hill rather than a hotel building. There are probably dozens of buildings which each host a number of rooms and suites, so there will be a great variation of room types and layouts. While technically it is a renovation from the previous hotel, the works appear more like a total new build just keeping the raw buildings, redoing everything else. The materials and finishing in the bedrooms looked first class.
They will do a soft opening on October 1st, and then slowly increase operations as the works will finish and more rooms and F&B outlets will become operational. in the final stage, there will be 16 different F&B outlets and 366 bedrooms (If I remember correctly). We are not huge fans of all inclusive, but it makes sense for this property as there is nothing nearby.
This being Madeira, there is no great beach but there is a nice seafront section with a pool (more pools scattered across the grounds) and access to the sea.
We had mixed feelings about Madeira (beautiful but crowded), but would come back just to try out this property once it`s ready.
I was a bit in a rush so only took a couple of pics, attached.
