This wouldn't be an EC/UK261 claim. incorrect IDB on this basis would be full cost of trip and potentially compensation. There were a number of such cases (mainly involving easyJet, Jet2 and Tui, but possibly some with BA) when airlines were following the UK government's incorrect advice about post-Brexit passport validity requirements to the EU. Initiating legal action may have been required in some cases, but the airlines didn't have a leg to stand on legally, they had to pay those who claimed. I do agree that the compensation would not necessarily make up for the stress and loss of trip, but it is not limited to EC261amounts.
