I don't think that's correct but I'd go with it! I pretty much mirror your circumstances - first time Gold, old collection year end was 8th Sept but my card expiry date is Oct 2025. Which I think yours should be. You would only get an extension until 30 April 2026 if you earned another 550 TP before end Mar 2025.

But with the state of BA's IT anything is possible!
