While we may disagree on the correct time to leave the lounge in T5, my view is that the last six months of any passport don't exist due to the various 'extra validity' rules in existence around the world.

This is especially annoying for those with more than one non-British passport, the UK is an outlier in issuing additional passports valid for 10 years. Many countries restrict their validity to anywhere between two and four years. The Canadians are particularly difficult, I'm told.
