If I'm flying AA metal for the most part, domestically, is there any additional benefit for staying with AA for elite status vs AS for elite status? I don't care about free alcohol in MCE seats (I usually book MCE seats anyway), or free alcohol on the rare AS flights. Just a cursory google has me really thinking hard about this strategy. Thanks!
AS & AA have reciprocal benefits beyond the
oneworld alliance.
For AA Elites flying AS
For AS Elites flying AA
The AS segment requirements were recinded earlier this year. Earnings in Mileage Plan are distanced based so attaing top Tier status is much easier and, if important to you, RDM are significantly higher for awards. The once US centric award charts were overhauled this year for a global reach. Many think it was a major devaluation, but I think it was a huge gain. AS awards allow a free stopover on one-way awards and don't have the routing restrictions that AA awards do. AS also partners with many airlines outside the
oneworld alliance like SQ, EI (earn & burn), KE & LA.
WY - Oman Air awards are online now.
