Hello all - we are 2x pax who were booked on the BOD-LGW BA2571 this morning which was cancelled due to operational constraints about 2hours before scheduled departure. We were assigned (have not accepted) a return flight the following morning (23rd September) on BA which did not work for us as we needed to return home this afternoon at the latest. We then proceeded to call BA twice to try and arrange a suitable rebooking option but we were only offered a Lufthansa flight via Frankfurt which arrived into London past midnight. We pressed on other options which landed sooner and were only offered an Iberia flight which arrived even later the next morning.

After that, we left the booking as is and arranged our own transport back via train to Paris and Eurostar to London which allowed us to arrive in time this afternoon. We hope to be able to claim back the cost of the transport and 2x taxi fares to/from train stations under duty of care compensation. Would be great to understand if this will be reasonable? Additionally, we have left the booking untouched (alternate BA flight on 23rd September still not accepted) and wanted to check if this was the right approach to simply let the booking expire or if we need to actively do something else in order to arrange compensation?

Many thanks in advance for any help.
