I gave up on trying to connect to the plane Bluetooth system with my Sony WF-1000XM5 ear buds given the long times to connect (if it connects at all), the dropouts, and the low volume level. Instead, I now use an Airfly Bluetooth transmitter that I plug into the earphone jack. Connects to my ear buds almost immediately, stays connected, and has its own volume control to boost the sound level. Works on anything with a 3.5mm audio jack. Around $35. Small device that actually performs as advertised.
