Yes. If it's achievable, I'd go for plat pro for Owe. The lounges internationally are much better. OW has a separate class of F lounges that are nicer and quieter. Domestically, it depends on where with LAX and JFK having differentiated offerings.
Credit card spend for LPs are a great way to earn. Some people are critical about the 1x earn rate but I have received really good redemptions from AA. Some of those were redemptions via the now dismantled aus hub. But if you think about it as a roughly 1.5cpm value plus incremental loyalty point awards (some options are miles) it's very reasonable.
If you pay for PE, BA metal is a nice sweet spot. I got an op-up from PE to J on my last trip to LHR, both ways. I would not expect this with any other cabin.
SWUs can be used on BA, but PE is a separate cabin, but a good way to upgrade into J with decent availability.
Especially with international travel, elite qualifying rates (London in particular, Marriott and Hiltons especially) is a lot higher than an online Expedia rate. If you weigh elite benefits vs cost, the "online non elite qualifying" aa hotels rate is very competitive. You can always buy breakfast in the rate, or the premium view and still come out ahead.
