I'm flying from BKK to HEL then connecting on from HEL to LHR - carry on only

As the flight from BKK appears to be arriving early the last few days, I was wondering
a) can I skip passport control and go straight to the gate?
b) if I have a flexible ticket, would they move me to the 16:00 fight instead of the 19:00?

The idea of arriving in LHR a few hours early and getting to my hotel sounds worth the effort of jogging between gates.
