What you're asking about is TSA Precheck. Yes, having Global Entry makes you eligible for TSA Precheck, but your Global Entry number has to be entered into your airline reservation. Simply showing your passport at security doesn't work. When making your airline reservation, or when checking in for your flight, make sure you enter your GE number. If you get TSA Precheck, it will be printed on your boarding pass.
