Hi,
To me, the proposal by Amex looks quite attractive, and even though I do not know all the details about the upcoming Beobank M&M Card - I think - in Europe - we"ve rarely seen 3 Membership Reward points for every EUR1 spent. I can't see it in NL or DE - sometimes i see 2x MR for every EUR 1 "temporarily" for a few months with renewals or promotions in those countries OR "Membership Turbo" in DE - so what Amex has done is "exceptional" to me. This reward structure 3x 4x 5x points is what you typically see in USA but very seldom in Europe. The Membership Booster option only makes sense if your yearly spent volume is higher than EUR14000 per year - in my opinion. Otherwise the regular reward plan of 1 EUR = 1MR is the better option.
I think it's "unrealistic" to expect that Beobank can come up with an offer that's even "close" to what Amex is offering. As the interchange fees were fixed significantly lower a few years ago, let's say there're like 0.30pct max 0.40pct for every transaction for Mastercard - while Amex is not bound by this ruling - and Amex probably charges 1.8-2pct in transaction fees - there's actually a bigger amount that can be returned back to you in the form of cash back equivalents. IMO with the MR booster, we're getting about 0.8pct back for every EUR1 spent in "cash equivalents" which can be used for flight rewards with Miles & More, and that's a lot.
Therefore I can agree with the previous post that - I think/guess - you're lucky if you're going to see/receive 0.25pct back in the form of points/cash equivalents with this Beobank program.
And that's my take on it. I'm switching...
