No... they can put you on a revenue flight as well.
The problem with AI is that you don't know what you're going to get from them... some times they're just super ready to help you with some awesome routing that gets you in ahead of your original flight... sometimes they'll tell you that the next flight you can take is in 7 days.
So in case you're going to miss your connection.. hope for the best but be prepared to to fight.
