You needed to capture the flight status of the flight departing from G8 to distinguish between ATC vs. UA controllable reasons. The departing flight could have been unable to push back because of ramp traffic, for instance, which would be attributable to ATC.

Unfortunately at this point, it will be difficult to disprove the reason they're giving you.
