If the time in MIA is under 24 hours, BA will see this as LHR-CUN, so yes, as long as you still get to CUN on time then a 4 hour plus delay to MIA may well mean nothing as far as the UK version of EC261 is concerned. On the other hand the end objective is to get you to CUN, so that's the upside, they won't try to just get you to MIA.
