A quick update:
Spent a week here, travelling solo, with a standard king sized room. The room looked nice just like the hotel website photos, although the windows are very small and you can barely see anything out of them. But there's very nice grounds on the hotel, so I didn't spend much time in the room.
Getting here without a car involves either getting a taxi from the airport (60-80 euros), or taking a train (5 euros) to Augusta and getting a taxi from there (25 euros, book in advance!). There is a shuttle boat for 8 euros to the small village of Brucoli, which is a bit steep considering it's just a 15min walk (wear good shoes).
The pools are nice, and there's a bar to order drinks from during the day. Breakfast is extensive buffet style, with an omelette chef if you fancy that. The rest of the restaurants... well, I tried the grill which felt very overpriced. When I dined in the resort, the pizzeria was good with authentic pizzas for a very reasonable price. The staff will look at you funny if you don't order water to start with X)
Staff were in general very nice and friendly. I read a few reviews mentioning they didn't quite know what they were doing, but in my experience at least everything went smoothly. Maybe they've focused on training throughout the summer.
My only gripe with the hotel (barring the location), is the cleaning and sheets. It's clear the room wasn't vacuumed daily, so the floors were dusty on most days. Used towels weren't always taken away, although new towels were put on the shelf. It's odd to have 4 towels for one person at any time. Dirty glasses weren't always removed and replaced. If I were the hotel owner, and wanting to profile it as 5 stars, I would immediately upgrade the sheets. I'm not a huge sheet snob, but I like to have mid-range cotton ones at home, and I expect hotels over 3 stars to match or exceed. These were pretty rough. I think I've stayed in 2 star hotels with nicer sheets.
