KM Malta Airlines

Air Malta is no more, so I decided to start a new thread, as there seems to be very little information out there.

I recently had to get from Amsterdam to London, so I made the most reasonable decision and opted to connect in Malta, as I had never been. I had a few free days, and it seemed like as good of a spot as any to lay low. Looking at flights, KM Air Malta was the only reasonable option, and I was able to get a full flex J ticket for only slightly more than the Y tickets were selling for.

The check-in counter at AMS had two counters for Y and one for J, but there was only one line to wait in. As is always my luck, the long line disappeared behind me, and no one was waiting when I finally made it to the front. They use the Aspire 26 lounge. This is also the only Schengen PP lounge in AMS, which is why it is absolutely awful for anything other than free alcohol and coffee.

Fortunately, the food served onboard was actually excellent, certainly the best meal I have had on a narrowbody plane. Even the red wine was good, which is more than I can say for the Malta wine at my hotel's lounge. On the ground, my bag was one of the first out.

For the flight from MLA-LHR, I was able to use a J check-in counter at MLA, but it wasn't any faster then the Y or bag-drop line. There is a priority security queue, but the lines were all empty at 14:30. Fortunately, sole lounge at MLA actually has a good selection of snacks and drinks, despite also being a PP lounge, as well as restrooms inside the lounge (unlike the awful Aspire in AMS).

MLA is a bus-to-plane airport, so priority boarding was pointless (both lines were boarding the same bus simultaneously). Worse yet, we sat there on the bus while the second bus was loading, and for about ten minutes afterwards, all the while with the doors open and the bus filling up with diesel fumes.

Once on-board, the flight was quite uneventful and the meal was every bit as good as my previous flight. The FA's were readily available and generous with refills both times.

All in all, it was a very good experience and I highly recommend considering J on KM Malta if you are in the need of going to Malta (or taking the scenic route between AMS and LHR).
