I'm thinking about flying on AA for the first time in decades -- I've been mostly flying on DL and Sky Team partners for the past several decades.


As a newly minted BA Gold Card member (BAGC), I was wondering about the benefits I receive, if any, when it comes to Same-Day Standby (SDS) and Same-Day Confirmed (SDC) policies on AA-operated flights.

1) On DL, if I purchase a seat in the premium cabin as a Diamond Medallion on a domestic itinerary (with the exception of JFK-SFO/LAX), I can do a SDC for free to any flight that has an open seat for sale in FC regardless of the fare class. Does AA allow this type of complimentary change to BA Gold/OWE members in the premium cabin?

2) If I'm traveling in Y on AA and want to make a same-day change, is it possible to do a SDC to an earlier or later flight as long as the fare class is available? What are the fees, if any, for BA Gold/OWE members who wish to stand by?

3) I've noticed that if I purchase a Basic Economy ticket, am I able to SDC or SDS to another flight? (I ask because it seems that as a BA Gold member, I benefit from additional perks that a non-elite member would not get on a Basic Economy ticket.)

I browsed through the AA website and looked through the section on Same-Day Travel Changes; however, the responses seemed more focused on AAdvantage members (and understandably so). So, I'd appreciate whatever insights that you might!
