Getting TGed: are aircraft swaps still a common occurrence?

I have my first set of flights on TG coming up since COVID started. Back in the day, getting TGed was a common feature of flying Thai, which meant that if you were on the 2-2-2 J 777-200, you stood a chance of getting upgraded to an all-aisle access 777-300ER. On the flip side, if you were on one of the nicer 777-300ERs, you could suddenly find yourself at the gate with an ancient 747-400 or a 777-200 with a neighbour who has to step over you to go to the loo.

Has this situation improved? I'm not seeing any recent threads talking about this happening.

I have a set of flights booked coming up, where I'll be flying a 787-8, 777-300ER twice, and a 777-200 and wanted to know what to expect.
