If that's the case, then you should only ever buy one-way tickets from Aegean. That way, you won't make the mistake of putting sectors from different fare families on the same ticket, falling foul of the "most restrictive fare" rule, and you won't pay any extra.

I learned it the hard way with Singapore airlines years ago and it was a business class ticket
I get that, but Singapore Airlines have different pricing for return tickets vs singles, Aegean do not, so it's fair enough.
Aegean got back to me today and offered to refund the segment so I can rebook, thus solving the issue.
