I believe that the term Speedbird pre-dates Concorde by many years. It's the name of the logo that BOAC used (was a stylized bird in flight) and was retained when BOAC and BEA (and others?) came together to form BA.

(There was also an old airplane named Speedbird, but I dunno if that's related.)
