Compared with SGS, Marriott Queen’s Park, Le Meridien (both Silom and Suvarnabhumi) and Madi Paidi, the Athenee was poor in terms of breakfast and although they had a nice cocktail menu for evening drinks in the lounge, the lounge food was underwhelming compared with those above (except LM BKk and Madi Paidi without lounges). They mostly offered cold canapés with one hot thing with a soup. All the canapés seemed similar to me (mostly seafood). The ice coffees didn’t taste of good quality. Tea was also boring with the scones not even served a warm. Breakfast was the most disappointing in terms of service (getting orders wrong, not wanting to modify things for dietary requirements etc). I recently stayed at Marriott Queen’s Park and the evening lounge offerings were amazing! Pad Thai being cooked at a live station, many other hot and cold food choices and amazing desserts as well as nice cocktails ordered and served at your table. Their breakfast is also amazing. There are so many other good choices in Bangkok so as mentioned above, only choose Athenee if you really need to be in that area. It’s marginally better than St. Regis I suppose.
