So, its actually not that weird. I was just wondering if my scenario was possible. Honestly, i'd really just want to get him the room, i guess i can pay for it and not earn Bonvoy points, but i think he still needs a credit card of some type, not sure
You can do it with points, but you have to call up and have them issue the cert in his name. They won't earn points and won't get any of your benefits. It's against the official terms of the program to have him stay under your paid booking, but it's rarely enforced stateside. There is no official way to share your status it's meant for your personal benefit. Hyatt has something called Guest of Honor but Marriott has nothing like that.
