I recently did something similar in WAW. Flight landed 9pm(ish) and I had nearby hotel booked for the first night. I dropped by Avis desk, signed the papers and asked if they mind if I collect the car in the morning. They had no issue with it.
I tried that last year at DXB, was on the day flight, which as usual was delayed and I didn't get to the Avis desk till almost 1am.
Told the guy that I was knackered, so happy to do the paperwork, but I was going to get a taxi to the hotel and pick up the car later that morning. All apparently fine, but he then sent me to the pick up zone anyway as 'I'd have to tell them as well' - needless to say it wasn't at all fine with them, and it took 15 minutes of arguing before they finally and very grudgingly agreed that I could take it next day.
So it's not a strategy I'd try again, but I guess it works elsewhere...
