So for example, if i have an avios booking on Cathay from HKG that leaves say 8:40am on 10th June - is my cut off for cancelling that in the UK by no later than 1:40am on June 9th (assumning HKG is 7 hours ahead as it is now)?
24 hours is 24 hours is 24 hours

If the first flight in your itinerary is from HKG at 8.40am on 10 June, you must cancel before 8.40am Hong Kong time on 9 June. If your flight has not been cancelled at that time and you cancel it later you will lose everything bar taxes (minues a handling fee).
