It is more common if your flight is cancelled I have found and you get rebooked to a lower cabin on the next flight. Even then often there is a no-show and you get back to the cabin you booked, although usually to an inferior seat. I would not worry about it too much. For all the stories here, thousands of passengers gave travelled without incident.
