In Economy they are good, I had my first and only Economy flights with them on VIE-IST-VIE in 2019 and of course you're "wowed" by potentially widebody aircraft on a 2hour flight with entertainment and a full, good meal.
Look, I wouldn't go out of my way not to book TK Business. If my post does anything then I hope it is to help reset expectations and give a bit of a "reality check". I have always read about TK being supposed to have such great service and food and generally being among the top. And that to me they clearly are not.
Like I said the number one issue that needs urgent fixing is the drinks service. And it should be fixable relatively easily by simply adding a second or third drink service, or like at most other airlines, simply ask passengers again for their drink wishes with the main course, and/or have a tea/coffee/digestive offering together with the dessert trolley. And then, again like other airlines, offer 0,5l watter bottles instead of 250ml. And place some water bottles and snacks in the galley for self-refills/take-away. I mean really it's not rocket science and a normal standard on many other airlines.
The second thing, which could be harder to fix if like some posts say it really is a cultural thing, is to be more open and especcially more proactive. Being more of an introvert myself I definitely dont mean that they should chat you up or something but just generally maybe giving a bit more of a vibe of enjoying your job and not having to ask them for every little single thing.
The third thing, which again will be hard to fix short- or mid-term, would be to have more comfortable seats. I'm 1,91m and while I did not "hate" the 787/A350 seats, I think most will be aware that they are designed as more regional seats for not that long flights (see SQ), are rather narrow, questionably designed in some parts (like the protuding "privacy" shield next to your head, that either blocks your view to the window or makes you always having to lean forward to talk with your +1), and also relatively short - I juuust fit in while sleeping but if you're even just 1-2cm taller you'll probably already be in trouble.
But so on the other hand I'm also definitely not going to go out of my way to book TK Business. In my specific case, I booked TK to PTY because I thought the service is gonna be great and the routing is longer than the alternatives via AMS/CDG/MAD to have even more time to enjoy it. Definitely not gonna do that again. Also to be honest I do not like IST airport with the taxiing taking ages and then having to walk forever in either direction, felt even worse than FRA. I will say that I thought the Business Lounge was really great, but that alone isn't enough. And then towards Asia the departures are often in the middle of the night, so it would be hard to enjoy the service and then that leaves the sleep comfort, which as I said in those narrow seats isn't the greatest. So probably in the future I would choose different routings, unless there is a huge price difference.
