Not true with Aegean. Flex ticket changes are fee free, but more importantly Aegean price per segment and not per entire trip. So the return price is the sum of two singles, no recalculation to be made, similar to how LCCs price their tickets. So there is no excuse for not allowing the change.
this is extremely common to most airlines
if you buy a return ticket the lower class rules prevail
I learned it the hard way with Singapore airlines years ago and it was a business class ticket
