If you do face a downgrade on the day, ensure that BA look at rebooking options into DCA if that works for you.

AA has a fairly extensive network into DCA from throughout the eastern half of North America, so that may provide more options and an easier connection. (You could look at F into BOS, ORD, ATL, MIA, JFK etc and then AA from there).
