Refused compensation

I was on this flight too. A group of us were told at the time by ALC info desk that the aircraft had suffered a technical problem at LGW and there wasn’t enough time to find a replacement plane to get out and back from ALC the same evening. Obviously this is different info from the above but either way I’ve just had my claim refused on the usual blaming ATC restrictions which sounds like a blanket cop out. So my question is - how do I escalate my claim if I don’t believe BA? To whom do I appeal and what info do they need, or am I doomed to failure because what BA say goes?
