Just finished up a 1 night stay for the low low rate of $100 after taxes. I am a status matched Explorist. After a long night with my boss, I arrived shockingly sober at the front desk around 1:20am in full business attire. The overnight front desk clerk was very personable, laughing at my hyperbole style jokes. It didn't dawn on me until morning the sun rose that I was not offered a pour from the open bottle of bubbly behind the counter. Perhaps it was against policy to serve at that hour.
Despite my peon-ist status, I too was given the queen studio suite, even though the hotel wasn't full on this September midweek night. The room was a corner on the first floor. I did have to haul my rollerboard up a small flight of steps which was mildly annoying but not too much trouble. The hotel concierge saw me attempt this struggle in the morning and offered to help which I appreciated but didn't use. Room view was of the alley and unremarkable.
As I was traveling solo and had not befriended any locals, the see through frosted glass shower was an interesting curiosity. It did create a very interesting mini aurora borealis visual effect while using the shower with steam rising from the floor.
Cons: I arrived to all of the drapes being 80% closed. As the alley next door was well lit, I had to find and lower 4 different window shades to block out the light. Minor annoyance at 1:30am while not inebriated. Unfortunately, the fully frosted glass window in the bathroom, did not have any sort of covering allowing copious amounts of light from the alley into the room at night.
Pros:it's $100/night. My expectations were set accordingly and were met. The decor was a playful break from the usual drab hotel room. I was also NOT charged a resort fee despite a $35 one being advertised. Perhaps the night desk clerk felt remorse for failing to offer a check in beverage. I also appreciated the nearly extinct species "individual travel shampoo bottles"
Work would have paid for the Centric South Beach for about 2x the price, but I didn't know when else I'd be able to hit one of the 10 or so Dream's for brand explorer.
