Our corporate discount is practically zero, and of course we forfeit the residual anyway on the TA booking. Interesting to know that this may be a workaround for that. I have made changes this way, usually to up-fare, and haven't had any issues, but I've always then flown the ticket as re-booked.
UA third-party tickets do not get FFC. UA fares filed in GDS explicitly say lower fare ignore residual in Category 16/31.
