Yes, I'm definitely talking about J class. I've lived in Japan for 15 years and hate Japanese food and any international 'inspired' food from Japan, which is nearly 100% of what JL and NH offer. It's not my taste at all. I've had several dozens of J flights on JL and NH both, I've even somewhat recently posted some pics somewhere on FT of a horrifically assembled J meal on JL that looked like dog food. If you like it, that's perfectly fine but it's far from the best J food in the air. QR and EY beat them any day of the week, CX does most of the time (but sometimes they are crap too), and certainly KE and OZ as long as you like Korean food (which I like 100% more than Japanese food despite living here). So it's a to each their own situation but I find JL's J food to be pretty crap. I also don't tend to eat much in their F lounge at HND for the same reasons, it's much too "japanized" for me, I usually go to the CX lounge as long as it's open.

90 mins in DFW normally is plenty as long as it's not during thunderstorm season. But I'd still take the JFK connection to be honest. It's not even about lounges, but it's a longer flight, so you have plenty of time to enjoy the new A351 experience plus sleep a good bit. When I'm on an airline with really good business class, I quite often opt for the longer flights intentionally because frankly I buy business class to sleep comfortably but also want to appreciate the experience.

Longer flights give you more of that. The JL experience is generally pretty good, with the exception of my dislike of their food (as noted above), they also only change their menu once a month and it's exactly the same whether you're going from Japan to SE Asia on a 4-6 hour flight or you're going Japan to North America or Europe on a 12+ hour flight. So if you fly JL a lot in a short period of time, the selection of only 2 (non-Japanese) meal choices gets tired pretty quickly. Even AA has more meal choices, it's not JL's strong point.

They also really annoy me when you order a cocktail (like Gin & tonic) because apparently the FA's are only allowed to pour 30ml (standard shot size) but all mini-bottles are 50ml, so they bring you a 1/3 full mini-bottle along with your drink, and half the time a nearly half full can of tonic (who wants to dilute their G&T any more?). Just weird.

I've mentioned in other threads, it's an airline I love to hate but I have to fly them frequently because of where I live and a pretty strong allegiance to OW alliance. They're better than NH in many regards, but NH did have a much better J longhaul seat until the JL A351 got started (that's definitely top in the market). You're not going to go wrong with either route on the A351, it's a really nice seat. But in my last experience in it, the FA's aren't used to it yet and fail to close the suite door most of the time. It's something I get really annoyed about on QR when it happens, if you open the suite door to assist the passenger, then please close it again when you leave.
