I'm guessing you don't fly this route, because LAX is a better routing. The first segment is 30+ minutes shorter (and it feels even quicker than that - basically up then down), and the fares are pretty consistently lower, especially on UA, which has higher demand ex-SFO. Lounges are better at LAX, too.
