Thanks for all the input.
As it turns out our second flight was delayed from an 0145 departure to an 0600 departure (and then delayed over another hour - we ended up being 5 1/2 hours late in TPE) so we grabbed a quick meal in the TK biz lounge (not crowded, food and wine good) then took a room at the Airside Yotel. TK care desk was unable to provide a room anywhere, subsequently the feedback form offered to pay for our room - but still no final resolution yet.
