We booked an Open Jaw SAN/JFK-BOS/SAN trip a few months ago for this November. Back in June they canceled one of our flights back to SAN, and offered us a decent change, but I made a bigger change that worked better for us, onto a flight that was originally much more expensive, because they allow that in these cases, and I was very happy. We were now returning on the Friday of Thanksgiving instead of Thursday.

Fast Forward to a recent notification of a family wedding in Boston on the Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend "because you will already be in town". Ugh. So we had to change to Sunday. And I knew it would cost us a ton to make this change.

Logged into my account and got a "your flights have changed" notice for both legs. 5 minutes on the Eastbound, we accepted the change. 10 minutes for the home route, I chose the "change" option, picked a Sunday morning flight and rebooked for free. Simultaneously fist pumping and shaking my head.
