Make sure that the ticket is reissued. You should get a new emailed receipt with a new ticket number. It's not enough just to see OK for the segment in your PNR. If the upgrade is confirmed, get the upgrade into domestic FC for your domestic connecting flight and again make sure that the ticket, not just the PNR, shows as FC.
The agent on the phone said that the upgrade is confirmed. She said that she was leaving the GUCs open (not closing them out) in case there are any further schedule changes or issues with the ticket. I looked at the receipt on the itinerary page and it is still showing RG (PS) for this leg. Should I wait until it gets closer to the flight (a week or two before) to do as you said? Also, she advised against doing the GUC on the last leg DTW-LGA in case I miss that short connection as well. I also don't care about being in F on that flight so I don't want to take any chances.
