also all the other fares increased with discount code applied.

Just why? is it just the dumb IT or are they doing it on purpose?
Marriott frequently does the same thing. I think that the thing there is that the discount is off rack rate, where the regular rates are somewhat less all the time. Sometimes the special discount/sale is less, sometimes more.
