Some of my friends use the QR mobile BP from HKG without problem.
There is always the possibility that you fly to a destination that requires that documents are checked at the counterm so that the BP cannot be issued online. In that case you have to get to the transfer desk when you arrive at HKG.
CX has the policy to through check bags on separate tickets. The CX counter in China should check your bags through.

Thanks for the reply. I guess transfer desk is open all day round and manned by a HK company covering a number of airlines, where times are not restricted like they are check-in air side?
